Hapkido is a Korean martial arts and a form of self-defence, which employs joint locks, throwing and grappling techniques, as well as kicks and punches.

 

The meaning of Hapkido

 

합  Hap:      Coordinated, joining or harmony

기  Ki:          Internal energy, spirit, strength and power

도  Do:        Way or art

 

Hapkido 합기도 can therefore be translated as way of coordinating energy.

Ki Hapkido Academy

 

 

The academy is based in Munich, Germany and lead by Grandmaster Bruce Chongman Ham.

Grandmaster Ham is an instructor under the World Hapkido Martial Arts Federation (WHMAF) and the only WHMAF master in Germany who can issue a Dan (black belt).

It focuses on the teaching of Ki Hapkido, an unique martial arts system, developed by Grandmaster Ham.

Ki Hapkido combines traditional Hapkido techniques with the application of energy, Ki 기, and the implementation of acupressure points and meridians.

At Ki Hapkido Academy, we teach Ki Hapkido not only for self-defense or exercise purposes, but to improve your own well-being and to grow physically, mentally and spiritually.

Grandmaster Bruce Chongman Ham

Grandmaster Ham was born in 1967 in Seoul, South Korea. His family moved to the United States when he was 17 years old. His father who practiced Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine was his mentor in gaining a deep understanding about different Asian healing methods and theories.

Grandmaster Ham has been practicing holistic body balance and energy therapy for over 20 years. He now works as a Holistic Life Coach and has a private practice for Stress Management and Holistic Body Balance in Munich, Germany.

Since his early childhood, Grandmaster Ham has also been involved in martial arts. He holds a 6. Dan in Hapkido, a 6. Dan in Taekwondo, as well as a Master in Tai Chi and Qi Gong. Throughout his life, he studied various other martial arts as well, including Jujitsu, Judo, Sayoc Kali.

Grandmaster Ham is a certified Hapkido instructor from the World Hapkido Martial Arts Federation (WHMAF) and the only grandmaster to issue a Dan (black belt) in Germany.

Besides his practice in Munich, and the Ki Hapkido Academy, Grandmaster Ham conducts live seminars and workshops on a variety of subjects in Europe, the United States and Asia.
