Ki Hapkido

Ki Hapkido puts great emphasis on Ki 기 (also Qi), the energy or life force.

The system incorporates certain Ki Gong (also Qi Gong) exercises to open up the energy flow in the body and increase one’s own energy level. Thus, the practitioner gains a deep understanding of Ki (energy) and its flow.

Another essential part of Ki Hapkido is the implementation of meridians in the body, as well as acupressure points, called Hyeol 혈, which are the same as used in Asian medicine systems.

Using the knowledge of meridians, the practitioner can manipulate or reverse the energy in the body of an opponent and thereby weaken him. The systematic use of specific acupressure points has the same effect of weakening the opponent.

With the application of Ki Hapkido techniques, the practitioner has to use only minimum physical strength to defend against an opponent and can rather deflect and re-direct the energy of the opponent. Fighting force with force is being avoided.

Ki Hapkido, with the use of energy flow, serves not only for self-defense, but has great benefits for the own personal health, similar to the effect of Qi Gong.
